The Future Of Real Estate
The computer is certainly changing everything, even the way we are shopping for real estate. The internet is now fast becoming the first stop when a buyer is starting to shop for a house. Not to long ago, it was the newspaper. Baby Boomers remember when there were no computers, emails, cell phones, and fax machines. Today, many Baby Boomers still stay away from these new gadgets. By contrast, generations X and Y can not even imagine life without these new technologies. (Gen X born from 1961 to 1981 and Gen Y born 1982 to 2001).
Many newspapers have gone out of business and the fate of real estate classified advertising, in general, in local newspapers may also become extinct. The cost to advertise in a local newspaper may not warrant the shrinking newsprint readership. More and more people are turning to the internet to shop for a home. This trend will continue as the new generation continues to spend not minutes, but hours each week on the computer.
The average age of a home buyer is now thirties. The average age of a seller is late forties. It is estimated that the average person will buy and sell a home in his or her lifetime at least five times. The internet will be the major source for all information relating to home ownership.
