How To Be A Top Salesperson -by M.S.Jazzetti

I have been in sales since 1983 and  have learned that if you want to be a top salesperson, you must do this:  Stop Being A Salesperson!!!

Sales is all about having your customer believe in your product, whatever you sell, and of course, you.  But, when a customer is buying something you are selling, it is because they perceive the product serves a purpose, whether they really need it or not.   They must have it.

Therefore, how do you change your customer's perception that he or she must desire to purchase your product? Instead of being a "salesperson,"  change your approach. Be a "Reporter."  A reporter is someone whom we all believe in.  When you are listening to a reporter, you accept it because they are: stating facts, are knowledgeable of the subject, are on top of all developments, don't exaggerate, are confident, speak with authority, are not pushy, state their case fully, and if they cannot answer a question, a reporter will be honest about it. Further, reporters are dressed professionally, have great manners, and are respected.

By changing your approach of how you present yourself, you will make a great impression on your customer. Even if you do not sell that item, they will remember you and will choose to business with you. Most people do not want to be "sold" by a pushy salesperson. And unfortunately, many do see salespeople in a negative way because of this stereo-typing.

So remember: the next time you are meeting with your customer, change your approach. Be a reporter instead of a salesperson, and your customers will thank you with a sale.
